More revelations about Forbes Chambers’ leading self-promoter … Call for help to prepare newspaper article … Promise of money and taxi fare … Young woman disappointed to receive signed copy of autobiography … Facebook furore

IS this an example of self-obsession gone berserk or a bad case of low self-esteem?

A middle-aged man takes a selfie while getting his hair died and then posts it on Instagram for his 1,641 followers to admire.

This is the wacky world of barrister Charles Waterstreet who still wants us to know that he’s “Really Rake”, even though that particular fantasy has been missing in reality for quite a time.

We seem to be getting too much information about Forbes Chambers’ finest. But wait, there’s more.

It came about because Waterstreet had sent out a Facebook message saying, “I urgently need a typist for fee for a few pages for newspaper … Good fee.”

Huberman’s teenage daughter was engaged for the job and told to get to Forbes Chambers by taxi, immediately. Waterstreet would refund the cab fare.

Would you believe it, after several hours work, there was no fee, and no taxi money, just a signed copy of one of the great man’s autobiographies.

The newspaper article about the terror attacks in Paris and terrorism in general was a statement of the bleeding obvious. It was more your celebrity scribble than something insightful and original.

Here’s Huberman’s Facebook post:

“The SMH commissioned this article on terrorism from Charles Waterstreet yesterday morning. Charles immediately put out a call for help through his network – he has trouble typing. He said he would pay well if someone could come quickly to assist him. A friend suggested the job to my teenage daughter, knowing she is saving money to travel overseas. My daughter called Charles. He asked her to come immediately and take a cab for which he would reimburse her. My daughter and another woman worked for several hours helping Charles with typing, research, spelling, grammar, etc. After they had finished Charles did not pay them. He did not reimburse my daughter for the taxi he had asked her to take, or the other woman for her parking. He did give my daughter a signed copy of his autobiography! My daughter learned a life lesson in human nature and business … In Charles’ chambers he has a list on the wall of tips to make life easier. They include ‘Drink water and eat your vitamins’ and ‘Don’t watch porn in front of clients’. If any of you are in there in the future, perhaps you could scrawl another one on the bottom of the list for him – ‘Behave fairly with people who come to help you’.”

There was a bunch a spiky comments from her friends in response, including:

It’s a jungle out there in social-media-land.
