Tribunal tribulations
Uncategorized Tuesday, July 4, 2017Dutton and News hacks take on the AAT, assisted by AG Brandis in the wings … Political attack on the integrity of the tribunal … Conflating terrorism with migration and refugee visa decisions … Misinformation abounds … Woeful times COMMENT: "Dumb as dog shit", sounds like a fair assessment for so many of the Thin Blue Line. It must be frustrating for the many, many DPP lawyers who present cases that Police do not investigate. Take for example, the case of the gentleman who was charged with raping a lady in a lift. When it came to Committal, the defense, led by that great advocate Clive Steirn SC, handed up a CCTV video of the action in the lift, which showed the lady attacking the man. Needless to say, the whole matter was quickly dismissed with costs. The poor prosecutor told me he wanted to crawl under the Bar Table in shame. A report to COPPER Central to have the lady charged with making a false complaint was rejected. Imagine, charging a victim of sexual assault with making a false allegation, we couldn't possibility have that, now could we!? Not to mention the potential of criticizing such a great institution as NSW Police.
