There is also some context to consider. 

Jimmy Savile got away with it because he was conveniently dead by the time Operation Yewtree got underway. The result was that the coppers and the CPS threw the book at Harris, aged 84. 

For the first trial the jury deliberated for nearly 48 hours and found the entertainer guilty of 12 indecent assaults. All but one were opportunistic offences, committed in public. 

Here are the sentencing remarks of Justice Sweeney. 

New charges were heard at the second trial resulting in either a hung jury on some of the offences or acquittal. The jury deliberated for 26 hours and there was a retrial on four of the alleged offences. 

At the third trial the jury was a bit speedier, deliberating for five hours resulting in either an acquittal, a hung outcome or the CPS withdrawing. Judge Taylor entered verdicts of not guilty and the CPS said it would not seek to have another retrial. Harris had earlier been released from Stafford prison.
